Running as an Independent
Many people have asked me why I did not choose a party to run with. It's a great question. Running with a party would make it easier in today's political climate, but would go against some of my personal beliefs. I believe that the parties were originally created to assist people in understanding what a candidate stood for. It was a very necessary thing back in the days when there was not such an immediate flow of information available. Today though I feel that a true candidate should be able to tell you what they stand for and the information is available to everyone. just being a Republican or Democrat these does no longer seems to mean that they automatically stand for one side or another of an issue. If I said the person is a Republican then they would automatically be for or against spending on education? Don't know? Neither do I - so what's the point? You want to know what I stand for, how I will represent you. It seems more often that being a Republican or Democrat means you have someone to blame (the opposite party) when you don't get what you want. It seems that many politicians use it as an excuse for not working as hard as they could to work as a team to help their constituents. I don't want an excuse...I want to be a person who can work with both sides and say "Hey the people of New Hampshire need this or want this so let's do what we need to do to make it happen, together."
As an independent, you know that I won't claim party loyalty - my loyalty is to the citizens of New Hampshire. What is it YOU want? That's what an elected official should be doing. That's what I want to do for you. Represent the amazing and intelligent people of this state who know the issues they are facing and contact their representatives and tell them, who go to town meetings, who write on community Facebook pages about the needs their communities have. You all have a voice and there are many ways that you share that voice and I don't care if the people I represent are Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, or any other party...we are all citizens and need equal representation in our state government.
This is why I run as an Independent.
