Today I had the opportunity to meet with a wonderful woman in my local community to discuss her needs and wishes for the future in New Hampshire. Having the opportunity to hear her opinions and needs and what she is hoping for in her candidate for Governor was inspiring. While I know it would never be possible to change the lives of every person in the state and make every life better, it would make me so happy if I could make a difference in the lives of the general population of the state.
Each story that you all share with me (and I've heard a couple good ones already) help me build a great portfolio I could bring to the State House to convince the legislature of the changes we need to make. To help explain why I need them to review the money we have coming in and how we're spending it. To look at the services we offer and make them question why we would offer a service without making sure that it is upholding the goal we gave to it. These personal stories touch my heart, they will touch the heart of the other elected officials as well because our state is different from other states. Our legislation is mostly volunteer - we don't pay our representatives a full-time salary to represent us. So they are representing us because they care about this state. I have to believe that.
Perhaps it's a naïve view of people, but I truly believe that people here want to help and I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt that they will do the right thing once they see what that is. I truly believe that if we can stop fighting amongst ourselves and instead work together we can find the solutions to the problems this state is facing.
Together we CAN do this. It may take a bit, I'm not under any delusions that change happens overnight....but it has to start in order to happen.
